If you don’t know Pinterest by now you should. This is a very popular and addictive way to interact socially that is different than any other. In January alone it received 11.7 million unique visitors to its website. For those who don’t know, Pinterest is a social bookmarking tool used to “pin” images found around the Web into categorized collections (“boards”). Sort of an interactive sharable scrapbook that you can follow other users and share their content, make comments, and tag users. This also integrates very well into other social media platforms and websites.
Pinterest has come under fire as of late due to the potential copyright violations. Here is the gist of it. Users of Pinterest and the people that are being pinned are generally excited when something of theirs is being pinned as it typically brings more people to their website, shop, etc. and brings a nice amount of free PR. However, when you “pin” an image Pinterest copys that image to its own servers, and does duplicate and share it.
